As the dust settled on the 2023 NFL Draft and I completed my dynasty rookie rankings, I am struck at how unique this year’s fantasy rookie drafts are shaping up to be. In my 20-plus years in the dynasty format, I haven’t seen a setup like this before.
In short, though we do have a strong Top 3 to lead off this draft, as well as a secondary tier of three additional players, what follows is anything but typical. The seventh player off the board is a pivot point and, beginning at selection 1.08, there are 14 players who are somewhat equally rated. I’ve never seen that level of parity in any dynasty rookie draft!

Rather than keep you in suspense any longer, let’s draft!
(Note: This is a draft for 1QB leagues — check out Jeff’s SuperFlex mock here)
Robinson is the easy 1.01 selection and, though I do believe 2022 rookie Tyler Allgeier will have a significant role, Robinson should have the volume and receptions to produce as a true RB1.
Smith-Njigba is this year’s upside prospect at the position after Justin Jefferson (2020), Ja’Marr Chase (2021) and Garrett Wilson (2022). A long career awaits.
What looked like a surprising selection by the Lions turned into projected gold when the team traded D’Andre Swift to the Eagles.
Take your pick among the next three receivers. I like Flowers for his work in space, dynamic ability and strength across the field.
Hard not to like Addison’s potential in an offense with Justin Jefferson. I do have concerns about his lack of strength at the next level.
I like Johnston’s landing spot and ceiling, but he has a longer runway to production than other rookies.
Richardson is so dynamic that the intrigue alone pushes him to 1.07, this year’s pivot point in rookie drafts.
He’ll have to be the exception (undersized) to have a productive fantasy career, but he has the skills.
No one loves the drafted situation, and for good reason. The talent is there to produce with touches.
The strongest tight ends class in decades with two great choices — Mayer is my TE1.
Equally rated with Mayer, Kincaid offers a stellar athletic profile in what could be a great situation.

I’ve been high on Miller’s NFL skills for a long time and his landing spot is a good one.
Parity in other positions pushes up the quarterbacks after Richardson. Young is my QB2.
Live arm, accuracy and prototypical size. There’s a lot to like here.
With NFL size and ability, Tillman could push for snaps early in 2023.
LaPorta is arguably in the best situation of all rookie tight ends due to scheme and team need.
Raw and from a lesser conference, Rice gets an upgrade simply by sharing the field with Patrick Mahomes.
If he’s able to be Russell Wilson’s new Tyler Lockett, he’s a steal here!
Should see starting snaps immediately and be a valuable target for Anthony Richardson.
A raw prospect with NFL size and strength. He’ll push for snaps early.
Risk of being a one-contract player due to no ACL and arthritic component, but has every-down ability.
Solid drafted situation and a potential three-down skill set. He’s underrated. Watch the fumbling issues.
I didn’t think he was a first-round selection, but I like his going to the WR-needy Giants.
A good value for those needing a developmental quarterback.
In a deep running backs class, Johnson is rising due to size and skills.
Athletic and in a good situation for early-career snaps. Can he stay healthy?
A crafty back with enough size. He should have a role as Travis Etienne’s backup as a rookie.
A fine blend of traits for the next level but no clear path to snaps early.

Few teams are better at identifying receiver talent. Reed looks good on film.
Hard to project for early career impact but could produce out of the slot in time.
Continues to fly under the radar, but he’s an upside player in a good scheme in Green Bay.
It’s a crowded depth chart in Dallas, but someone will need to replace the loss of Dalton Schultz.
Will take patience, but it’s a fluid depth chart and Scott could be a slot performer in the future.
Weak collegiate resume due to injury and needs to develop, but has an NFL body and upside.
A quiet riser at the position. Will take patience, but could produce in 2024 if Evan Engram departs.
A 25-year-old rookie in a good situation for development. Will sit for at least a year, maybe two.
