Gillian Anderson is best known for her role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully on sci-fi drama seriesThe X-Files.
For her role in The X-Files, Anderson has won many awards. These include the 1997 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Drama Series, the 1997 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series and the 1996 Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television. Amongst the wins, she’s been nominated for an array of awards for the same character, including People’s Choice Awards, National Television Awards and Satellite Awards. It’s believed Anderson’s role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully initiated a phenomenon known as “The Scully Effect”. This is due to the increased amount of women pursuing a career in science, medicine and law enforcement, where her character was prominent in as a medical doctor and FBI Special Agent. Anderson has had roles in the crime drama series The Fall, the psychological thriller horror series Hannibal and more recently, the mystery series American Gods.
